GROUTING WIDE CRACKS
IN A TROUBLE-FREE APPLICATION

DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD THICKEN THE GROUT?

Large PLOT 030.gif -

If you had chosen to continue with 0.8:1 grout for this period it is time to thicken to 0.6:1. Otherwise far too much water is being injected.
If you were using 0.6:1 for it, it would desirable to thicken further for the next period, but it would not be essential. If you assume you are using a grout mixer able to handle 0.5:1 grout (such as a high-shear, high-speed mixer, as described elsewhere on this site and in the Guide) then it would be best to thicken to this mix.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING 0.8:1 YOU SHOULD THICKEN.

BUT IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING 0.6:1 AND YOUR DECISION IS TO CARRY ON WITHOUT CHANGE THIS IS TOLERABLE BUT NOT THE BEST.

It is necessary to decide what to do next. The choice is from one of the following:

  1. Let the simulation decide what to do next.
  2. Carry on grouting without change.
  3. Thicken the mix
